Good Practice, Hard Game

Hey everyone, sorry its been so long since my last post but Im here now and better late then never right?!
So I went out on Sunday (which is our regular day to go) and it was kinda rainy but not too bad. While we were out we didn't get rained on. Though it started rainning while we were driving back. Unfortunately myself and three other hard core ballers were the only ones to show. we had two others come but when they saw the size of the group they opted out.
We all had already gotten up and dressed for the occassion so we were gonna do it, so we pressed on and made the day into a kinda long field practice day out of it. It was still just as fun as if the usual 20 guys had made it.
The games we played were designed to stack the odds against a certain team then see if that team could pull it off. First we played two rounds of 2 on 1. Boy those were tough but surprisingly in the two games the 1 guy took out the 2 guys each time good job! Then our fourth player got there and we divided into two man teams and played regular elimination rounds. We tried to make them as equally matched as possible. Because we had two ten year plus veterans and two first year players we split them so each team had one of each. We played that for most of the day.
Now to what this post is really about at the end of the day the veterans wanted to play a game together. Myself and my good buddy Eric hadn't played together all day and we always enjoy being on the same team cause we work well together like good teammates should. But thats unfair right? So, what we did was impose a 1 shot per second rule on the vets and a fire at will rule for the new guys. Thinking too that this would be good practice for us, Eric and myself head out to the field to hide first. The idea in our plan was for Eric to draw fire then I would sneak up from the left side of them. It worked great! There I was sneaking up from the left rear flank poised to put a welt on the first one I pull the trigger and just miss. Normally I would have four more balls coming at this guy so It wouldn't really matter that the first one didn't hit. Unfortunately with this rule set I didn't have that luxury. He quickly pinned me to a tree and it was over in short fashion for me. Its really hard to return fire when your shooting one ball a second. You might think this is were I will insert my gripe but on the contrary it made me realize how dependent I had become on throwing those first few shoots, almost like tracer rounds, at an opponent to see were I was hitting then adjust. I had gotten good at it because usually it takes me one shot then I'm on target. But none the less I had began to rely on the knowledge that I could throw more paint out there then most of the guys and had settled into that mode.
We lost that game and afterwards I was talking to Eric and we both realized that we had settled into this mode so we are actively deprogramming ourselves from this line of thought. We still lost the next game too, but we did rely alot more on our tactics and communication this time and put up a much better fight. It's still really hard to cover fire at one ball per second :)
I guess to some it all up I would have to say that everyone should take a step back and look at the way you play the games to see if you are still using the basics right, if not those are some really hard habits to break but it will really improve your game.

Save Money by Modifying your Marker

Many people think that to keep up with the speedball guys out there that they must buy the newest fastest markers on the market. While Angel and the other top manufacturers like this, I have found a very inexpensive way to modify a Tippmann A-5 to keep up with most all the mid to high level markers. By replacing the stock trigger spring with a lighter one, and adding a stopper to limit the trigger travel length. This has speed up the marker a surprising amount.

Hi guys this is a new forum I created to discuss not only ways to save money paintballing but to brainstorm new games and ways to bring the sport to new players. I welcome all opinions so long as they are not degrading, no ones ideas should be made fun of. I would like to keep this area at a PG-13 rating do to the fact that I think playing paintball with your kids is a great activity and would like to promote it.
